In the late 80's Rover was in trouble and they decided to release some limited edition lines, the Racing green, Racing flame and later the Mini Checkmate, these proved a huge success selling all 2500 units (which at the time was a much needed windfall for Rover) This also lead directly to the reintroduction of the Cooper's.

Here we have one of the rarest variants, the Checkmate. Finished in Jet black paint with a contrasting white roof and checkmate decals, in fact this was the first time the Mini had been offered with a contrasting roof since the 60's and the Coopers. They came with 12 inch Minilite alloys in silver (Magnus has had these swapped out for some in black) the aforementioned white roof, chrome bumpers, a distinctive bonnet motif recalling countless track victories, 3 clock dash and a sports upholstery. A chrome grill has also been added.

Internally his original seats have been given a total refresh and are no glad in Black leather with contrasting horizontal red stitching, the doorcards have been done to match. He retains his original steering wheel, door furniture, 3 clock dash including rev counter and gear knob. Black carpets finish this stylish interior off perfectly.

Under the bonnet sits his original 998cc engine, he's got a stage one tune taking him to 48 bhp and is paired to a 4 speed manual gearbox. Having travelled just 30,046 miles from new everything is just right. We have as always given him a complete service including all new fluids. 12 inch superlite alloys in black and wrapped in Yoko A539 rubber.

Mega low numbers of these are left on the road in Black, making him a collectible and sort after limited edition Mini.
