Say hello to Forbes.
Our greatest Clubman GT to date. He's truly exceptional.
Registered on the 1st August 1977. Having had a total restoration including lots of new metal, new wings, A panels, door skins, door steps, full floor pan, sills, battery box, boot floor, rear valance and more. The decision had been taken for fresh paint in dark silver metallic (to match the owners R53 Cooper S) so he was taken back to bare metal, etched primed and painted, the underside & inside received the same treatment. The addition of a mulberry red roof and matching Mini 1275 GT decals plus black mirrors look awesome. Of course everything else has been re-chromed or replaced with new. The restoration was carried out by MiniMine at an eye watering expense! We of course have to make reference to the stunning brand new 10 inch Dunlop D1 wheels wrapped in Yoko A008 tyres.
Under the bonnet sits the original engine and gearbox that has been recently fully rebuilt and modified. Rebored and honed to 1340cc, Omega deep dish pistons, AC Dodd Cam, ARP main bearing nuts, steel Cooper S main studs, everything else is reworked or brand new performance parts. This is paired to a Bryan Slark race head inc race valves. The gearbox of course had the same treatment, X Pin diff, centre oil pick up etc. Carb wise the trusted 1 1/2 Twin SU's chosen of course overhauled and modded with a BBW needle & jet and a genuine K&N filters. This is linked to a LCB Maniflow and full RC40 exhaust that sounds fantastic. All this results in some pretty impressive numbers of 100 bhp & 99 IBft (on a running in rolling road) Forbes has an amazing rasp like I've never heard under hard acceleration. Everything else has been rebuilt with new other than the original subframes which have been striped and powder coated. He has fully adjustable suspension including Hi-Los, GAZ adjustable shocks and Evolution cones. Radius arms rebuilt and painted in matching engine block green, Timken wheel bearings etc. Braking is AP callipers that have also been rebuilt and improved with SS pistons and all new seals and again painted in matching red paint and paired with grooved discs & better pads and Superfins to the rear also in red!
Internally you find an a stunning set of red & black leather SPI seats with matching rear seats and matching door cards that are in as new condition. The addition of a full wooden black dash gives that extra step up in luxury and also houses the new Smiths magnolia clocks, 130 mph speedo, oil pressure and temp. All original door furniture and gear knob are still retained and the upgraded brand new Mountney dark wooden rimmed steering wheel is very smart. Brand new black carpets and black new headlining makes for the perfect interior. The history file that comes with Forbes is seriously impressive and contains lots of photos & invoices of the restoration etc.
Forbes is as good underneath as he is on top and has massive show winning potential. I'd be embracing the 1340 100 BHP engine and be spending my weekends blasting around the B roads on the way to local shows to pick up trophies and then heading home in the same fashion. You DON'T find GT's at this level very often and NEVER for a few quid.
