Say hello to Humphrey!

Our greatest Clubman GT to date. He's truly exceptional.

Registered on the 1st November 1978. Having had a total restoration including lots of new metal, but only what was really required as keeping as much of the original shell was the aim. The new metal includes new wings, passenger A panel, passenger door skin, drivers side door step, front floor pans, drivers side outer sill, battery box and a few small panels. A few mods were also made at this time, this included blanking the inner wing rad vents and the addition of the air box for the intended Webber carb. The decision had been taken for fresh paint in its original shade of black, so he was taken back to bare metal, etched primed and painted in two pack, the underside received the same treatment and was primed with zinc 182 then undersealed, this is simply the BEST paint I've seen on a classic Mini! The addition of Wood & Pickett arches (that can be removed as fitted in such away to allow for this) look amazing. Of course everything else is original and has been rechromed or replaced with new. Brand new replacement gold decals really standout. The decision was taken to paint match the grill which i absolutely love. We of course have to make reference to the stunning brand new steel 13 inch wheels wrapped in Yoko A539 tyres.

Under the bonnet sits the original engine and gearbox that has been recently fully rebuilt and modified. Rebored and honed to 1310cc, Calver special tuning pistons, Calver ST cam followers, 276 Cam, ARP main bearing nuts, Steel Cooper S main studs, everything else is reworked or brand new performance parts. This is paired to a fully gas flowed Cooper S MK3 12g940 11 stud head inc race valves, this was also totally overhauled and improved when the engine was done. The gearbox of course had the same treatment. Carb wise the trusted HIFF44 was chosen of course overhauled and modded with a BBW needle & jet and a genuine K&N filter. This is linked to a LCB Maniflow and full RC40 exhaust that sounds fantastic. All this results in some pretty impressive numbers of 100 bhp & 89 IBft. Humphrey has an amazing rasp like I've never heard under hard acceleration. Everything else has been rebuilt with new other than the original subframes which have been striped and powder coated. He has fully adjustable suspension including Hi-Los, KYB shocks and Evolution cones. Radius arms rebuilt and painted in matching engine block green, Timken wheel bearings etc. Braking is AP callipers that have also been rebuilt and improved with SS pistons and all new seals and again painted in matching engine block green paint and paired with Brembo discs & pads. Cooling is taken care of by the far more reliable metro front mounted radiator.

Internally you find an original Sorel stripe cropped nylon interior with matching door cards that's in fantastic condition, these are incredibly hard to find these days. The addition of a full wooden dash gives that extra step up in luxury. Of course the famous GT clocks are retained showing all the important info, speed, revs, fuel and temperature. All original door furniture and gear knob are still retained and the upgraded Mountney black leather steering wheel is very smart. Brand new specially matched carpets and all new headlining make for the perfect interior. The history file that comes with Humphrey is seriously impressive and contains lots of photos of the restoration etc.

Humphrey is as good underneath as he is on top and has massive concours potential. I'd be embracing the 1310 100 BHP engine and be spending my weekends blasting around the B roads on the way to local shows to pick up trophies and then heading home in the same fashion. You DON'T find GT's at this level very often and NEVER for a couple of pounds!
