This week we have something a little bit special and different! The Mini Metro but this is the ULTIMATE version, the MK2 MG Metro Turbo!
His name is Turbo. Our lucky winner Dillon Jones decided on the Tax Free cash alternative so he's back.
These are an 80s fest! Every single thing about them is just cool!
This particular example is one of the very best in existence and has had many magazine and TV appearances over the years including Top Gear magazine. He's as he left the factory in 1989 and completely original other that the door bottoms having been repaired and the bonnet, roof and boot being re painted at the same time due to spider cracking (this is all photographically documented). Of course he's in black and has just been to Time To Shine for a complete decontamination wash, full machine cut & polish and a full interior deep clean and is shining like never before! Of course these have many distinguishing features including the front and rear bumpers that remind me of Kit the Knight Rider car. The MG and turbo badging in white & red to standout and the stunning 13 inch lattice wheels. Don't forget the luxury of the sunroof! A little known fact about these is that Lotus were involved in their development!
Interior wise as part of the facelift in 1984 to the MK2 this got the full works, a new dash style and incredible seats and I mean incredible, probably the comfiest seats I've sat in! The aforementioned seats are clad in grey cloth to the centre and a kind of teddy bear outside with contrasting red MG logos and red piping, matching rear seats and door cards with door storage and leather to the top. Red seatbelts, red carpets and the 80s futuristic dash and dials are amazing! A very lovely steering wheel with red stitching and MG logo at the centre with matching gearknob in black & red. A stereo and clock are some of the upgrades. A wonderful place to spend some time.
Under the bonnet sits the 1275cc Turbo 93 bhp & 85 ibft engine paired to a 4 speed manual gearbox. This engine is honestly amazing, absolutely hilarious and really shifts along. Makes a mega sound and when the turbo kicks in you cant help but smile from ear to ear and if your like me laugh your head off. These are spectacular! Upgraded suspension Front: Independent bottom link braced by anti roll bar. Top link operating Hydragas spring. Telescopic dampers. Rear: Independent trailing arms, anti roll bar, coil spring pre loaded on Hydragas unit. Bigger brakes with 4 piston calipers and vented discs and 7 inch drums to the rear take care of all your stopping requirements. After these were produced all made around 100 bhp when tested. 0-60 in 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 110 mph if your brave enough!
These are now one of those "80s gems" that are appreciating at a huge rate, massively collectible and finally gaining the recognition they deserve! Don't forget the Metro was created to replace the Mini but they all rotted away, this is one of the very few survivors, less than 20 of these are on the road today! The file that comes with this car is epic!
There is also a life changing £8,000 tax FREE cash alternative if you don't fancy Turbo.
